In a party raid, Iranian authorities detain professional football players.

 It seems that several top-tier football players in Iran were detained by police at a party on

New Year's Eve where alcohol was being served, which is a violation of Iran's Islamic laws

that ban the consumption of alcohol and mingling between sexes outside of marriage.

The players were reportedly detained at a party east of the capital, Tehran, and some were

in an "abnormal state due to alcohol consumption," according to Iranian media reports.

It is not clear at this time if the players will face any formal charges or what the potential

consequences of their actions may be. There has been no official comment from Iran's

football federation on the matter.
